Curodont

Drill-free, needle-free care for early cavities and white spots, in as little as 3 minutes per tooth.

What Is Curodont?

Curodont Repair Fluoride Plus, made by vVARDIS, is a liquid treatment that helps stop early tooth decay and rebuild weakened enamel without drilling, needles, or fillings. It is designed for cavities caught in their earliest stage, before a hole forms, including the chalky white spots that often show up along the gumline or around braces.

At Collins Dental, we offer Curodont to children and adults in Winter Springs and nearby Oviedo, Casselberry, Chuluota, and Geneva. Because the treatment takes only a few minutes, we can often complete it during your regular dental checkup, so you leave with a stronger tooth and no numbness.

For years, the standard approach to an early cavity was to watch it and wait until it was large enough to fill. Curodont gives our dentists a way to treat that spot now, while most of your natural tooth is still healthy.

What Causes White Spots and Early Cavities?

White spots and early cavities form when acids from plaque bacteria pull calcium and phosphate out of your enamel faster than saliva can put them back. The enamel turns porous and chalky, which is why early decay often looks like a dull white or light brown patch rather than a hole.
Common contributors include:

  • Plaque that collects around orthodontic brackets during braces treatment
  • Frequent snacking or sipping on sugary or acidic drinks
  • Brushing or flossing that misses certain areas, such as between teeth
  • Dry mouth, which reduces the natural protection saliva provides
  • A personal or family history of frequent cavities

Not every white spot is decay. Some come from fluorosis or enamel that formed unevenly during childhood. Curodont is designed for spots caused by early decay, so our dentists will examine the area first and recommend the right treatment for the cause.

How Curodont Works

Curodont works below the surface of the tooth, where early decay actually lives. The liquid combines fluoride with a specialized peptide that soaks into the porous enamel and creates a framework inside the lesion. That framework draws calcium and phosphate from your own saliva and helps new enamel crystals form throughout the full depth of the weakened area.

Traditional fluoride varnish is still an important part of prevention, but it mainly strengthens the outer layer of enamel. Once early decay has reached deeper into the tooth, surface fluoride alone can no longer reach it. Curodont is designed to fill that gap between prevention and a filling.

Benefits of Curodont Treatment

The biggest benefit is simple: we can treat an early cavity while keeping your natural tooth intact.

  • No drilling, no needles, no numbing. Most patients feel nothing beyond a quick cleaning of the tooth.
  • Preserves healthy tooth structure. Nothing is removed and no filling material is placed.
  • Fast. Treatment takes as little as 3 minutes per tooth and often fits into your cleaning or checkup.
  • Works on every tooth surface. That includes chewing surfaces, smooth surfaces, and the tight spaces between teeth.
  • Safe for children and adults. It is a gentle option for kids and for anyone who feels anxious at the dentist.
  • Braces friendly. We can treat white spots around brackets without removing them.
  • Tasteless and non-staining. There is nothing to rinse off and no aftertaste.
  • Usually a single visit. In most cases, one application is enough to treat a spot.

Who Is a Good Candidate for Curodont?

Courtesy: vVARDIS patient education library

You may be a good candidate if a dental exam shows early decay that has not yet broken through the enamel. Our dentists confirm this with a visual exam and, when needed, x-rays.

Curodont is often a great fit for:

  • Children and teens with early cavities, including those seen at our pediatric dentistry visits
  • Patients with white spots that appear during or after braces or Invisalign
  • Early decay between teeth that shows up on x-rays before it can be seen
  • Adults with a history of frequent cavities
  • Anyone who would prefer to avoid drills and needles when possible

Curodont is not the right choice in every case. If a cavity has already formed a hole, we will recommend a tooth-colored filling instead. If a white spot comes from fluorosis or a developmental enamel defect, cosmetic options such as dental bonding or veneers may be a better match. Curodont is also a treatment for existing early decay, not a replacement for brushing, flossing, and routine fluoride on healthy teeth.

What to Expect During Your Curodont Appointment

A Curodont visit is quick and comfortable, with no numbing and no drill. Here is how it works at our Winter Springs office:

  1. Exam and diagnosis. Our dentist checks the tooth and reviews x-rays to confirm the decay is early and the surface is still intact.
  2. Cleaning. We polish away plaque and the thin film on the tooth so the treatment can soak in.
  3. Preparation. A mild gel is placed on the spot for no more than 20 seconds to open the enamel pores, then rinsed and dried.
  4. Isolation. Cotton rolls keep the area dry. No rubber dam is needed.
  5. Application. We press a soft sponge soaked with Curodont onto the spot for about 5 seconds. The liquid absorbs into the enamel right away, with no waiting in the chair.
  6. Aftercare instructions. You are free to go, with a few simple tips for the next 30 minutes.

The whole process takes as little as 3 minutes per tooth, so it pairs easily with a cleaning or another planned visit. If you feel nervous about dental care in general, ask about our sedation dentistry options.

Results and Aftercare

The repair process starts as soon as Curodont is applied and continues over the following weeks. Lab research found a measurable increase in enamel mineral density within 2 weeks of a single application, and clinical studies report a success rate of over 90% after one treatment.

After your visit:

  • Avoid eating, drinking, or rinsing for 30 minutes.
  • Brush twice a day and floss daily as usual.
  • Keep your regular checkups so we can monitor the treated area.

How we track results: New enamel crystals form inside the tooth, and that change does not always show up on an x-ray right away. At your next checkup, we look to see whether the spot has stopped growing. If it has, the treatment is doing its job and the tooth does not need to be drilled.

Many patients notice white spots looking less noticeable over time. Curodont is a health treatment first, though, so cosmetic fading varies from person to person.

Curodont vs. Other Treatments for White Spots and Early Decay

Curodont is the most conservative way to treat early decay because it removes no tooth structure at all. Here is how it compares with other common options.

Treatment How it works Removes tooth structure? Best for
Curodont Liquid treatment rebuilds enamel from inside the early lesion No Early decay and decay-related white spots, including around braces
Fluoride varnish Strengthens the outer enamel surface No Preventing new decay on healthy teeth
Resin infiltration A thin resin seals the porous enamel Minimal surface prep Early white spots, mostly on front teeth
Microabrasion Gently polishes away a thin outer enamel layer Yes, a thin layer Shallow surface stains and mild fluorosis
Dental bonding Tooth-colored resin is shaped over the tooth Sometimes Chips, gaps, discoloration, small cavities
Dental veneers Thin custom shells cover the front of the tooth Yes Larger cosmetic changes to shape and color
Fillings Decay is removed and the space is filled Yes Cavities that have formed a hole

Many patients see white spots become less noticeable as the enamel rebuilds. Curodont is designed to treat early decay rather than as a cosmetic treatment, so the amount of fading varies. Treating spots as early as possible gives the best appearance results.
